I am drawn to teaching for many reasons, and I consider there to be no greater gift than the success of my students. My field is multifaceted and as a result I am aware of how many different approaches there are not only to creating work in my field but also to teaching and learning. The field of technical theatre and design is broad and welcomes people from all walks of life, bringing together many personality types and with that many different ways of learning.
While I approach teaching with the knowledge and understanding that each of my students approaches learning slightly differently and that none of us learn in simply one way, I always ask that my students learn by doing. There is plenty of theory in technical theatre and design that can be learned through lecture and research but the heart of technical theatre and design is art. Whether that is the art of rewiring a lighting instrument, the art of managing a complex production problem or the art of creating a visually stimulating and successful design, all forms of art present in technical theatre and design require practical application.

From the Students
"Linda was my first adviser in college, and through her mentorship, she inspired me to follow a career in stage management. If it wasn't for her kindness and insight, I would not be where I am today. She helped guide me and form me as a manager, and now I am a graduate student earning my MFA in a program she helped design. I will always be grateful for what Linda has done for me throughout the years, academically and personally."

Classes
Below is a list of courses that I have taught in theatre and in dance at both the undergraduate and graduate level. For all of these courses I developed the curriculum and created the course structure. Additionally, you will find a small list of master classes/workshops that I have offered. These workshops have varied in length from one to two hours and have been offered multiple times. For example: I have offered the Lighting Design for Dance class at ACDA Conferences several times and often multiple times at a single conference.
